Combination therapy of hypertension

Abstract

Combination therapy consisting primarily of ACE inhibitors, AT1 blockers and calcium channel blockers represents a promising therapeutic strategy in severe forms of arterial hypertension. Due to the different mechanisms of action of individual compounds, the combination of antihypertensives represent additive and synergistic antihypertensive effect leading to a significant drop in blood pressure and a lower incidence of adverse effects of individual components, such as diuretics and β-blockers.

In patients with resistant hypertension at the same time, we should not forget sufficient appropriate dose diuretics, then his failure to spironolactone or β-blocker. Always we had previously excluded non-compliance, and primary aldosteronism or other forms of secondary hypertension.
