Rediscovered Finds of the La Tène and Roman Periods from Obříství, Mělník District. Speculations on the Settlement Chamber of the Roman Period in the Middle Elbe Region
Abstract
The paper deals with an evaluation of earlier finds dating from the La Tène and Roman periods, which have been recovered since the 19th century and are currently deposited in the collections of the Regional museum in Mělník. The author also thoroughly analyses a collection of finds recovered during a small-scale rescue excavation at the site of Na Štěpáně in 1959, during which, among others, one of the documented features was interpreted as a kiln for lime burning.
The chronology of these finds has been made more precise and the interpretation of the feature has been discussed on the basis of the current state of research. The gold fibula with onion-shaped knobs found in the cadastral area of the neighbouring village of Chlumín in 1829 is also published in detail for the very first time.
This artefact is currently deposited in the collections of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
