Abstract

The submitted study contains five parts. The content of the first part includes a brief interpretation of some biblical texts.

In the second part, the author briefly discusses the historical, cultural, social and religious status of women in the Graeco-Roman culture that influenced Judaism and Christianity in their understanding of the relationship between a man and a woman. The third and fourth section of the paper reflects an Old Testament concept of a woman, it deals also with Jesus's conception of women and their ministry in early Christian churches.

The fifth final section points to some critical emphases of feminist theology and is to serve as stimuli for further discussion on the status of women in the Christian churches.
