The text shows conflictual czech-german relations under the influence of 13 century colonisation, economical strength of the german minority in towns, and its political aspirations - undermining that of the czech aristocracy. Antigerman voice can be heard in so called "Dalimil's" Chronicle.

The tensions grew in the 15th century, related to the reform movement and university conflicts. Together with this went also strong tendencies to define clearly the notion of Czech nation.
