First Explorers in the Egyptian Western Desert: Bahariya and Farafra Oases

Abstract

In the long history of Egyptian Western Desert manifest personalities whose journey into the Africa was not motivated only by yearning for treasures or adventure gain but by an effort to understand natural phenomenon and historical facts. Journeying with these men of science and especially archaeology begins in the Middle Age in Bahariya oasis.

Central part of the article covers list of researchers and their works depicting Bahariya and Farafra in 19th and part of the 20th century. These initiators studied preserved antique monuments, described them and caught them in their pictures; both of it is for us of great value.
