Solitude in Itself, Solitude in Us. Ipseity in Contemporary French autobiography

Abstract

This paper examines the relation between the Self and the world in modern French autobiography. The interpretation is conceived as a relationship between the author, text and reader.

Analysing Christine Angot's Inceste and Ernaux's Journal du dehors the author expounds the theory of an individual and collective solitude.
