The local injection of botulinum toxin is a very effective symptomatic therapy procedure in cases of spasticity and other syndromes with a raised muscle tone. Clinical experience shows that botulinum toxin affects oferent nerve fibres, particularly pain fibres.

Therefore, the neurotoxin seems to be able to influence neuropathic pain. In the presented case, a continuous reduction of neuropathic pain after stroke could be demonstrated.
