Abstract

The liver diseases are very common. Whereas in the past the majority of liver diseases were caused by alcohol abuse or viral infections, current situation is different due to, in particular, medical progress (hepatitis B virus vaccination, very efficient antiviral treatments).

On the other hand, newer liver diseases are currently more frequently diagnosed (e.g. intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy) and this must be reflected also by our laboratory diagnostic methods
