Analysis and assessment of the economic yield of rare earth elements from CRT screens and other WEEE. Part B

Publication

Abstract

The project deals with the highly topical issue - secondary "mining" of rare earth elements (REE ) from waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). This is particularly the assessment of yield REE permanent magnets and luminophors.

The impetus for this goal is the rising cost of REE and and unstable situation in the export from China primary REE deposits. WEEE appears to be a potential alternative and cost-effective source of REE.

The project will be designed to process/methodology sampling and chemical analysis for selected samples were made. In parallel follow-up project, the samples were subjected to tests to yield REE on separation column.

Chemical assessment and quantification potential loss in the simplest stage of processing were made and chemical composition of the ballast after processing luminophores on separation collumn was tested.
