Alternative mini-invasive approaches to calcified aortic valve replacement

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2013

Abstract

For symptomatic patients with severe calcified aortic valve stenosis, open heart surgery for aortic valve replacement (AVR) remains the gold standard. Elderly patients with an increased risk profile, however, should be treated by using transcatheter approaches (TAVI - transcatheter aortic valve implantation).

The most common ways are depicted in the article.
