Quantification of parenchymal involvement in patients with fibrosing interstitial lung diseases

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2013

Abstract

Methods summarising the use of high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) in quantification of fibrotic interstitial lung diseases are evaluated in presented study. Visual as well as automatic scoring systems can be used.

Visual scoring systems are easy to be assessed and if suitable system is chosen, trained respiratory specialist can be involved in scoring. Automatic scoring systems should be prefered in evaluation of serial HRCT scans.

Extent of fibrotic changes in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis or chronic extrinsic allergic alveolitis can be a good predictor of patient's prognosis.
