Abstract

The empirical study tries to explain how Czech youth with the different participation in sports, have the knowledge about the basic Olympic facts and Olympic ideals and how they assess the Olympic Ideals and Olympic Games. The Olympic and COMPASS questionnaires were applied.

The results confirmed the hypothesis about the positive impact of participation in sport on the knowledge of the Olympic facts of the respondents. The differences between the knowledge of Olympic facts and assessment of the Olympic Ideals were between the sporting and non-sporting youth was not statistically significant.

The most desirable and real Olympic ideals were found in those values which are associated with sport performance: competition, physical fitness, sportsmanship, etc. The real impact of some ethical Olympic values like honor, cultural understanding, broadmindedness, etc. was assessed as less significant.
