Abstract

The article deals with the origin and the geographical understanding of theconcept Europe in Greece during the Archaic Period and the 5th century BC. It touches the problem of Europe as the mythical person and her connection with the name of the continent, but the main subject of this text is the geographical knowledge of Europe in early Greece, before all in the works of Hecataeus of Miletus and Herodotus of Halicarnassus.
