Unusual case of sepsis caused by Neisseria meningitidis Y

Abstract

22-year old man suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus on immunosuppressive therapy was hospitalized 18.4.2013 to the General Faculty Hospital for hypotension, fever, heart failure and suspected myocarditis. Condition has progressed to the image of septic shock, source of infection was not clear.

It was done ECHO, CT of the abdomen and chest. It was collected a clinical material including blood cultures and vital antibiotic therapy was begun.

Cultured strain from blood culture was identified as Neisseria meningitidis. The patient showed no meningeal symptoms or formation of petechiae, which are typical signs of meningococcal sepsis.
