Abstract

In 2011 the Czech Republic had registered 107,570 births, of which 24% were terminated by Caesarean section - the majority (57%) in acute indications, but a significant portion (43%), and elective. 47% of caesarean sections was made general anesthesia in 53% then regional anesthesia (neuraxial). The regional spinal anesthesia techniques prevailed (76%) before epidural anesthesia (24%).

These numbers are based on the project OBAAMA-CZ, but are consistent with published data elsewhere. But what do these numbers mean European or global context?
