Abstract

This report is concerned with the results of the recent research at the site of Usli in the Northern Sudan. Since 2009, the ancient site of Usli, discovered by the Southern Dongola Reach Survey team as late as 2000, has been the object of archaeological exploration by the mission of the Czech Institute of Egyptology, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague.

The present paper provides an overview of the findings of the archaeological survey, archaeological excavation, and geodetic and geophysical survey of the site carried out between 2009 and 2013. In conclusion, it puts forward an evaluation of the archaeological potential of the site for our understanding of the Sudan’s past as well as of the threats to the antiquities located in the research area.
