Abstract
The term "tumor markers" includes a number of very different substances for which a common association with malignant proliferation. This allows their use in the diagnosis of suspected malignant disease, especially in determining the prognosis and monitoring of patients during treatment.
Positive or negative for tumor markers may be in some cases part of the classification of the tumor.
