Abstract

This case report describes 17-year-old girl treated for diabetes mellitus (DM) type 1 since 7 years of her age. From the beginning she has not been a very compliant patient.

During the last year several episodes which seem to be hypoglycaemic coma or hypoglycaemic unconsciousness had been described. Later on the psychiatric origin of these episodes was revealed.

The trigger for the dissociative identity disorder in this concrete case was probably the difficult interpersonal relations in her family and her bad experience with severe hypoglycaemia. The main purpose of this case report was to demonstrate that a diabetic patient treated by insulin may sure also from other forms of unconsciousness than only hypoglycaemic.
