Abstract

We examine by the method of micro-reading a sequence of Mallarmé´s dramatic poem "Hérodiade" based on one of the most symptomatical topoi of the end of the 19th and the beginning og the 20th century, self-observation in a mirror. We try to pursuit the boundary between the decadent poetics and the symbolist one which is actually denied.
