Abstract

This paper describes the use of bibliometric mapping method to analyze the state of the art of the field of information science and librarianship in the Czech Republic. The aim of the research project was to examine the bibliometric mapping method on the relatively known field as well as to reveal various insights into the selected field practice in the Czech Republic.

Further goal is to point out how different input data provide various insights into one scientific field and last but not least it was aimed to confirm the relevance of using the bibliometric mapping method for research field analyses. Data representing educational, research and practical areas were examined.

For examination and visualization, new on-purpose subject classification scheme was created. Visualizations were created using VOSviewer software.

As a result, every data source provides a bit different picture of the field. The final maps show strengths and weaknesses of each insight, show relationships and point out at differences between them.

The results confirm that, however limited, this method can be easily used for analytical purposes.
