Abstract
The unsatisfactory state and quality of primary mathematics education in the Czech Republic has become the subject of many forums, projects, and is often discussed in media. The goal of this paper is to contribute to improvement of this situation.
It describes a part of an extensive research project coordinated by N. Vondrová and solved at the Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague.
The paper identifies, describes and comments on two critical areas of primary school arithmetic.
