Abstract

This document contains a proposal for a concept of specialised addictology services to be provided to psychoactive substance users and pathological gamblers. From the perspective of the professional public, the concept takes into consideration the current needs and development trends of the field, while seeking to make optimum use of the existing network of both outpatient and inpatient/residential service facilities.

Specialised addictological care has several types and levels given the varying character of services, the existence of several legal frameworks, the environment in which the services are provided, and the diverse professions that come into play in the care provided to substance users and/or pathological gamblers. The aim of the Concept is to define the network of specialised addictology services falling under the control of the Ministry of Health on the one hand and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs on the other hand, with the elements of the network providing addiction-specific healthcare as the main or a significant part of their activities, while ensuring the combination of these services with the appropriate social care in integrated and inseparable specialised facilities defined in the Standards of Professional Competency of facilities and programmes providing professional addiction treatment services.
