The chapter deals with methodological principles of Vladimír Šmilauer who was the author of didactic-syntactic theories and teaching methods which have influenced the syntactic thinking of several generations of students. It emphasizes especially the approach of Vladimír Šmilauer which accentuates visual graphic method of linguistic analysis.
It provides inspiration until today due to its elaborate methodological adaptation and also continuous focus on the text of literary work as the point of departure and subject of teaching practice. Šmilauer’s principles may thus demonstrate the possibilities of joining the linguistic and literary education which may nourish the concept of contemporary integrated methodology of Czech language and literature.
