The Religion and Denomination in the Historiography of the Zittau/Upper Lusatia Region in the 18th and early 19th Century

Abstract

The chapter deals with the role of the religion and confession (denomination) in the printed as well as hand-written chronicles of the town Zittau. The special attention was paid to the narrations on the "pagan" origins and the beginnings of the Christian religion in the region as well as to the perception of the Czech (Hussite) reformation in writings of the the Zittau's chroniclers, ca. 1650-1850.
