Abstract

Malabsorption is a pathological condition which involves disorders of the transport of nutrients , digestion and / or absorption mainly in the small intestine. The most common symptoms are diarrhea , steatorrhea , and malnutrition.

Malabsorption may be caused either by damage to the intestinal mucosa , or changes in the digestion of essential nutrients. Some of the mechanisms leading to malabsorption of nutrients , others are more selective.

In principle, play a role in the pathophysiology of malabsorption three main groups of mechanisms: premukózní , mucous and postmukózní. Premukózní mechanisms leads to maldigestion , mucosal and postmukózní malabsorption in the narrower sense.

The most common diseases associated with malabsorption are : celiac disease , Crohn's disease , lactose intolerance , lymphoma of the small intestine , stomach , and liver disease , chronic pancreatitis , and systemic disease. In the diagnosis of combining imaging and laboratory tests.

Among them are predominantly global tests , screening , tests to indigestion individual macronutrients and specific diagnostic tests.
