The aim of study was to analyse data regarding the valence dimension (positive, neutral, negative), overtness dimension (internal, muttered, external) and structure dimension (single words, phrases, complete sentences). The examined group was composed of skilled endurance athletes (long-distance swimming (n = 20); road cycling (n = 20); long-distance running (n = 20), triathlon (n = 20)).
In this research we used Self-Talk Use Questionnaire – STUQ (Hardy, 2005). The evaluation of the quantitative data was done by explorative analysis and presented by BoxPlot tables.
We used non-parametric Kruskal – Wallis test and Post Hoc test (all pairwaise) to compare findings of research samples. Due to our findings connected with valence, overtness and structure dimension the results show correlation between all four types of endurance sports.
In summary, the result of our study shows connection between use of Self-Talk and endurance sports. Moreover, the results were quite similar.
