Abstract
Anaerobic bacteria are a part of the normal human microflora and infections caused by them are mostly of endogenous origin. Predisposing factors for infection are particularly tissue ischemia, trauma, surgery and foreign body in the wound.
These infections are rather chronic in nature, but there are exceptions, particularly clostridial infections may be fulminant and cause patient´s death. An important factor in the treatment of anaerobic infections, besides adequate antibiotic therapy, is surgical treatment of infected and necrotic tissues.
The presentation involve three patients hospitalized at the General University Hospital in Prague. All the patients suffered from an infection caused by anaerobic flora.
