Abstract

The entry deals with two versions of the famous “Quack play” from medieval Bohemia dating from 14th century, the so called “Museum fragment” and the “Schägl fragment”. Firstly the general context of the play and its central character in the frame of medieval European drama is discussed.

Subsequently each version with its specific language aspects is described with regard to the unique concept of the sacred farce and the connection of liturgical, sacral and secular, profane elements. At the end, one finds an overview of modern productions of the play in the Czech context.
