The entry deals with the early liturgical Easter drama “Visit of the Sepulchre” and its extensive tradition in medieval Bohemia. Firstly, the dramatic ceremony, based on the Quem queritis trope, and its liturgical origin and roots within the context of European medieval drama, are introduced.
Further, following selected texts of the Visitatio sepulchri type are described in detail: the oldest fragment of the Visitatio sepulchri play from Missale plenarium (12th century), the Visitatio sepulchri text from St. George convent (the end of 12th century) and its later, s. c. “the abbess Kunhuta´s version” from 13.-14.century and finally the play from the medieval “Codex of Canonical Hours”.
