Abstract

Increased incidence of cardiovascular complications and increase cardiovascular mortality is a typical feature of type 2 diabetes patients. The main goal of comprehensive treatment of these patients is to reduce their overall cardiovascular risk.

Long-term cardiovascular risk reduction can be achieved by tight glycemic control as soon as possible after diagnosis, whereas the effect of tight glycemic control in previously long term treated patients is less successful. Irrecpective of the duration of diabetes, complex intervention of some other risk factors, especially adequate treatment of arterial hypertension and dyslipidemia and weight loss is very effective.
