Abstract
Although influenced by a great number of religious traditions, most of the contemporary Western millennial religious groups and millennial ideas can be quite easily assigned to one of four main branches of millennialism: the Mainline Protestant and secular millennialism, the Evangelical millennialism, the Roman Catholic millennialism, and Western Esoteric millennialism. The development of all these four lines or branches of contemporary Western millennialism is followed up in this chapter.
