Using the methods of theoretical and empirical pedagogical research, the collective monograph aim to map the values that influence children in the Czech Republic and which anchor the world of current children and the way they experience matters. The chapter 1offers a comprehensive study that starts with the bases of the search for children's values; from there it proceeds to map individual expressions of children's values as well as their pedagogical consequences.
The chapter 2 offers a qualitative study aimed at the notion and feeling of happiness as understood and perceived by the children, pupils of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. The key question dealt with the chapter 3 is the quality of values, value preferences and the influence these preferences have on children when choosing their role models and ideals.
The research group is composed of the pupils from the 4th and the 5th grade from the basic school. The pupils were approached in the years 1994, 2000, and 2012.
The chapter 4 focuses on teachers' perception of children and childhood in comparison with previous generations of pupils as well as on the values that children give preference to now and also in consideration to their future as adults. Once again, the age group in question includes preschool and younger school-age pupils.
The chapter also asks questions related to the basic feelings that the current globalised world evokes in children.
