The paper presents a contrastive analysis of two converbs: the French gerund and the Czech transgressive. The contrastive data underlying this analysis were extracted from the parallel corpus InterCorp, the French data from the coprpus FRANTEXT, and the Czech ones form the corpus SYN2010; a previously published analysis of the Czech transgressive was used as well.
The two forms are compared with respet to their morphology, syntactic features (function, position, rule of co-reference of their agent with the subject of the main clause), frequency, register and meaning.
