The so called Liber de Caesaribus is the only preserved genuine writing of Aurelius Victor. The writing is written in an affected style, usually considered one of the most difficult of all Latin literature as a whole.
Probably due to this style only a few readers are known and lately it became a real teaser for modern translators as well. In the paper Victor’s style is documented with several passages of his writing and confronted with the two existing Czech translations.
The modern one by Jan Burian and Bohumila Mouchová is found outstanding in all respects, save that the difficulty of Victor’s style is dropped from the translation.
