The city has long been treated as the opposite of landscape as a free-standing nature. It is clear today that rather than being the opposite of the human environment, landscape is already a mixed, hybrid space.
But then the same conclusion must follow for the city as well. The conference was concerned with following questions: what place nature has within the city’s confines, in what ways does nature in all its forms influence the aesthetic value of the city environment, and how can aesthetic arguments contribute to the debate on nature’s indispensable role in the city’s ecosystem.
