Abstract
The paper deals with cultural memory of national socialism, second world war and Holocaust in post-war Germany. Huyssen examines connections between memory and forgetting, as well as monumentalisation of memory in form of grandiose memorials.
The concept of monumentalisation is examined here comparing to Richard Wagner's conception of pathos and monumentality.
