The text focuses on some of the unthought-of or little discussed aspects of the teacher professionalization process. Though the author recognizes the legitimity of professionalization trends, he sides with the concept of teaching as a vocation.
The text draws attention to the important dimensions of teaching that need to be dealt with individually and blond the scope of professionalization efforts. It oscillates among these three main motives: first, a contradiction between technical and ethical character of teaching, second, a critique of the instrumental concept of culture as a tool for professional adaptation, and, consequently, of the professionalization of university.
