Abstract

The use of insulin in clinical medicine has been from the beginning linked with efforts to adapt insulin treatment needs of patients. In the first half of the 20th century methods of extending its action was based mainly on the physico-chemical principles of protein solubility and a large shift in development then brought the discovery of insulin hexamer structure and application of the principles of genetic engineering.
