Patient monitoring after treatment for childhood haematological malignancies; late-onset adverse effects of the treatment

Abstract

Haematological malignancies are the most common and most easily treatable malignancies occurring in childhood. Treatment using high-dose chemotherapy and radiotherapy does however carry the risk of late-onset complications including organ toxicity, secondary malignancies and cognitive and psychological problems.

As survivors of paediatric malignancies increase in number, their quality of life is coming to the forefront of interest. Long-term multidisciplinary monitoring is an important part of followup care
