Abstract
The article gives a definition of thyroid cancer, informs about its rising incidence both worldwide and domestically and gives an overview of the possibilities of its diagnostics and treatment. The treatment of the disease requires multidisciplinary cooperation of an endocrinologist, a surgeon, an expert on nuclear medicine and a radiotherapist.
Furthermore, the article presents the available diagnostic and therapeutic programmes and the significance of measurements of the levels of tumour markers in the serum, ultrasonographic examinations and aspiration biopsies in the context of early detection of a relapse of the disease
