Charity and Catholic Social Teaching : A reflection on their relation, (in particular) on the basis of their historical development and magisterial documents

Abstract
First, the historical development in both areas is presented – principally, their common biblical and historical roots, and then both areas are differentiated and described. In the next part, the relation between charity and Catholic Social Teaching in the encyclical Deus caritas est (2006) is presented, as well as its social-ethical aspects.
Finally, some possibilities regarding the interaction of both areas in the social engagement of the Church are outlined.
