‘Endangered languages’ through the prism of the history of the Indian linguistic area

Abstract

Indian linguistic area, its history – the ‘milieu’ in which endangered languages should be perceived. Tribes and languages mentioned in old texts are to be used for reconstruction of the early situation and consequent loss of dialects and languages.
