Abstract
We analyzed 25 tissue samples tissue samples excised from patients undergoing heart transplantation due to chronic heart failure caused by either cardiomyopathy or coronary artery disease. Using quantitative histology, the study was focused on epicardial adipose tissue surrounding the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery and the CD68-positive macrophages infiltrating both the LAD artery and the adjacent epicardial fat.
