Abstract

This text focuses on the late baroque renovation of the small medieval Holy Trinity church near the plague infirmary in České Budějovice, carried out by the town administration in the 1760’s. The church was decorated by wall murals, and new altar was installed there.

The thematic focus of almost all the art works is the church consecration to the Holy Trinity. The renovation was carried out by local artists, the painter František Jakub Prokyš and sculptor Leopold Hueber.

Woodcarver Jakub Hueber had previously been considered the creator of sculptures and carvings, but the text refutes this assumption based on archived documents. The text presents the design of the Holy Trinity altar by painter Prokyš as deposited in the archives of the Deans Office, which may also be connected with this renovation.
