This research focuses on analysis of inequality in perceived air quality in five cities of the Czech Republic and control sample of the rest of the population. Firstly, it focuses on problems arising from application of standard inequality measures on categorical data and explores existing alternative approaches based on median as a main reference point.

Secondly, the research uses previously established alternative approaches for an analysis of disparities of answers of respondents from different cites. The research shows limitations of the method of pairwise comparison of spread of distributions and finds that even in cases where such analysis does not provide unambiguous results, an index of inequality suited for categorical data can be computed.

The inequality analysis finds higher overall disparities in answers from Praha, Ostrava and in some cases from Liberec. On the other hand it finds answers of respondents from rest of the Czech Republic and in some cases in Plzeň more aligned around prevailing answers.
