Abnormal TSH, of thyroid hormones and of thyroid antibodies

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2013

Abstract

The article discusses the best practices for management of the children with the finding of changes in the levels of thyroid hormones and positive autoantibodies against tissue peroxidase and human thyroglobulin. The aim is to distinguish serious thyroid disorders including hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism from mild changes in hormone levels.

The examination is supplemented by ultrasound of the thyroid gland. Patients with borderline positive autoantibodies who do not have changes on ultrasound and have normal levels of thyroid hormones can be followed by a general practitioner for children and adolescents
