Abstract

Varicella, in the Czech Republic the most commonly reported infectious disease primarily of the children's age, is in most cases benign with the posibility of outpatient treatment. In adults, people with immune disorders, and pregnant women may, however, be disease with drammatical course with the possibility of the occurrence of multiple, sometimes very servus, comlications.

Congenital infections are rare. The originator of the disease is the third herpes virus varicella-zoster virus, which after passing of the acute disease permanently persists mainly in the ganglia of sensory nerves.

Reactivation of latent infection with eruption in the relevant dermatome is called shingles. Varicella is currently a preventable disease.

Monovaccines are available as well as the combinet vaccines. In the Czech Republic has not yet been the vaccination against varicella included among the regular vaccination.
