Abstract

The education is one of the most important prerequisites for achieving the full potential in all spheres of life. The education principally influences the life quality of individuals as well as the society and therefore, it is desirable to ensure the fair access to it.

The free choice of the educational career is considered to be one of the sources of inequity in the access to education. The paper presents the research project concept supported from Charles University Grant Agency that is focused on the field of transition from pre-primary to primary education with regard to the family socioeconomic status.

The aim of the project consists in the recognition of the decision making mechanism concerning the beginning of the compulsory education and in the exploration of the way of perception of this social reality from chosen relevant participants. The project will be aimed to the parental decision making process as to the beginning or postponing of the compulsory education and in the case of compulsory education beginning to the process of the first school choice with regard to the choice of criteria and their evolution during the process.

Within the research we will focus to the acquirement of data in the terrain via semi-structured interviews and by the focus group method. The selection of the respondents will be structured by their socioeconomic status, region and size of their places of residence.

In conclusion we will present the subsequent research direction and the results of the realized pilot interviews.
