Cognitive functioning in euthymic patients with bipolar disorder

Abstract

Bipolar affective disorder is accompanied by an impairment in cognitive functions. Such impairment remains stable even in affective remission.

Cognitive disturbance basis is likely genetic and being in part worsened by psychofarmacotherapy and influenced by the course of bipolar disorder itself. Cognitive impairment show significant connection with functional impairment and its possible improvement using therapeutic interventions is a recent object of study.
