Abstract

According the globalisation of world trade new entities arise at financial markets. These entities are cross-sector groups combining insurance companies, banks and investment firms and they are usually called "financial conglomerates".

The article deals with legislation on financial conglomerates supervision that comes in the last twelve years in Europe as well as with the actual Czech governmental Financial Conglomerates Bill. The attention is paid to European directives, especially to European Parliament and Council Directive 2002/87/EC of 16 December 2002 on the supplementary supervision of credit institutions, insurance undertakings and investment firms in a financial conglomerate.

This directive amplifies the sectoral legislation for credit institutions, insurance companies and investment firms to financial conglomerates to protect consumers, depositors and investors and in order to boost the dynamism of the European financial market.
